The first sighting of Seawolf has been reported, and a few intrepid divers are already exploring the protocol.
This new version of Swell surfaced on the Goerli testnet on Wednesday, and has since undergone rigorous testing from the community.
That's the standout news from this fortnight's edition of Deep Dive, but there is more to report: including steady progress towards mainnet, changes to the Aquanaut AMA schedule, and our take on the rapidly approaching Shanghai upgrade:
🧪 Seawolf surfaces on Goerli
Seawolf, the latest version of Swell, surfaced on the Goerli testnet on Wednesday.
Since then, we've been flooded with positive feedback about the new architecture and interface.
If you haven't yet explored the new protocol, There's still time to test it ahead of the mainnet launch. Get all the information you need in the official announcement, and then take the plunge yourself at: https://testnet.swellnetwork.io
Better yet, help us promote the testnet and be recognized as a Diver, Navigator, or Submariner through our Aquanauts program. All details will be made available in our next Discord AMA on Thursday 30th March at 17:00 UTC.
🌊 Shanghai set to shift liquid staking landscape
With Shapella now less than two weeks away, we believe that the liquid staking market is about to experience a tidal shift.
As withdrawals are unlocked, we expect the market to become even more dynamic and competitive, helping the industry to align with Ethereum's values of decentralization, permissionlessness, and censorship resistance.
In other words, the time is ripe for Swell to make a huge splash!
Get our take on Shanghai, or contact the team if you have questions about how the upgrade will impact Swell.
🔍 Smart contract audits
Swell is committed to putting security first, and has currently engaged leading smart contract auditing firm Sigma Prime to examine our smart contracts before they are deployed on mainnet.
With these audit results in hand, we'll be set for a launch that is currently forecast for late-April 2023.
🙋 AMA schedule update
Weekly Community AMA events are now held at alternating times: one for Aquanauts in Europe and Asia, and another for those in the US.
If you couldn't make the last two events, catch up on what you missed in our AMA recaps:
🔹 Community AMA recap: 24th March
🔹 Community AMA recap: 17th March
The next Community AMA will be held on 30th March at 17:00 UTC.
Join us then to earn a recognized community role, or check out the full schedule for April in Discord.
📅 Guarded launch expected for mid-late April
Following the successful testnet launch, the guarded launch is now expected to take place in mid-late April.
This critical phase is expected to last one to two weeks, and will see the protocol tested on mainnet with certain limits around users and deposits.
Once the team has ensured that everything is humming along nicely, we will then be able to confidently invite everyone to stake on a fully open and permissionless Swell!

Once Shanghai goes live, competition for staked ETH market share is a free-for-all.— Aura (@AuraFinance) March 17, 2023
Existing stakers can withdraw and re-stake with other providers, while holders who were waiting for Ethereum’s upgrade will be looking to stake their ETH.
I found this @swellnetworkio in 2022 and immediately joined them on Discord and set up testnet node. So I am OG among OGs. And now the project has matured to the stage where it can be leaked to you as an alpha, which can bring you profit or utility (or even both)— Psychedelic┻┳Sergey💎🙌(🦋,💜) 🐻 ⛓ (💙,🧡) (@sergey69420) March 28, 2023
